Wood shake repair covers the same core issues as cedar shake work but applies more broadly to wood shingle and shake roofing systems – splitting from weather exposure, curling as wood ages and dries, and rot in shakes that have held moisture too long.
We handle this for Mapleton, ME homeowners with wood shake roofs showing visible damage – cracked or missing shakes, dark or soft spots indicating rot, or a roof that's simply aging and needs targeted maintenance rather than full replacement. Wood roofing needs more regular attention than composite materials to reach its full lifespan.
We inspect the full roof for damaged, rotted, or missing shakes, checking the underlayment in areas where shakes have failed and exposed it. Damaged shakes get carefully removed and replaced with matching material, fitted to blend with the surrounding pattern rather than standing out. Where we find rot, we check how far it's spread before replacing just the affected shakes versus a larger section, since rot can travel further than what's visible on the surface.
Cost depends on the number of shakes needing replacement and whether any underlying rot needs addressing.
